FBR Tax Inspector Jobs 2026 Latest Eligibility, Salary and Apply Online Guide

When people search for FBR Tax Inspector jobs, they usually mean one of two different posts, and mixing them up is the first mistake. One is Inspector Inland Revenue in BS-16, recruited through the Federal Public Service Commission. The other is Inspector in BS-14 for Income Tax, advertised by FBR field offices with a much simpler test. This guide separates the two, explains the departmental promotion route that most outsiders never hear about, and shows how to apply and prepare without paying a middleman.
Three Routes Into the Inspector Cadre

The third route matters for readers who already work in an Inland Revenue office. An FBR notice from September 2025 invited eligible employees to apply online for the FPSC departmental promotion examination, with service requirements set by the recruitment rules for each source post. If you are an outside candidate, this route is closed to you, but it explains why direct vacancies are limited.
Inspector Inland Revenue (BS-16) Through FPSC
FPSC advertises this post for the Revenue Division, Federal Board of Revenue. A past FPSC recruitment case for Inspector Inland Revenue BS-16 ran over several years: candidates were provisionally shortlisted in 2024, and in January 2026 the Commission published a public notice recommending alternate candidates for appointment. That timeline is a useful reminder. FPSC cases are slow, so apply once, keep your documents safe, and watch the FPSC website for every stage.
What the FPSC process looks like for candidates, based on the Commission notices and the online application form:
- You apply online through the FPSC system against a consolidated advertisement, choosing the post, a test centre and an interview centre.
- If you claim age relaxation, you must say so on the form and support it with a certificate.
- Provisionally shortlisted candidates are told to submit attested copies of their documents, with the name stamp of the attesting officer, and candidates with missing papers are informed by SMS or email.
- Interview dates and changes are posted on the FPSC website, which is why the Commission asks candidates to check it often.
- The form carries a declaration that false information or forged certificates can lead to disqualification or termination even after selection.
Inspector BS-14 Through FBR Field Offices
Some FBR directorates advertise their own posts. One advertisement from the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation (Inland Revenue), Islamabad, listed Inspector (Income Tax) in BS-14 beside clerical and support posts, with a provincial and regional quota table. In that advertisement the qualification was graduation from a recognized university, the minimum age was 19 and the maximum 25, with five years of general relaxation, making 30 in total. The test had two papers of 100 marks each, general knowledge and arithmetic, followed by a 100 mark viva voce, and a candidate needed at least 50 percent in each paper and in the viva to qualify. These numbers come from one advertisement and can differ in another, so use them as a sample of the format.
Quota, Domicile and Age
Federal posts are filled on provincial and regional quotas, with separate seats for merit, Punjab, Sindh urban and rural, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan and former FATA areas, plus a women quota. FPSC recommendation lists show each candidate with a domicile and quota tag such as open merit or women quota, which tells you that competing in your own quota matters as much as your score. Keep your domicile certificate valid and consistent with your CNIC details.
How to Apply, Step by Step
- Check fpsc.gov.pk for the current advertisement, and the FBR website for field office posts.
- Confirm the exact post name and scale, qualification, age on the cut off date and quota.
- For FPSC posts, register and fill the online form. For field office posts, follow the application method printed in that advertisement.
- Make sure name, date of birth, CNIC and domicile match your original documents exactly.
- Pay the fee only as the advertisement directs, and keep the receipt.
- Save your application copy and keep attested documents ready for later stages.
Preparing for the Test
For the BS-14 style test, the syllabus is narrow: general knowledge about Pakistan and the world, and arithmetic. Spend half your time on arithmetic practice, because speed there is easier to improve than general knowledge. For BS-16 inspector posts, prepare English, general knowledge, current affairs, Pakistan affairs, basic maths and the subject of your degree, and read the basics of income tax, sales tax and the role of FBR. Clerical posts in the same advertisements add typing and computer skill tests, so practise typing if you are going for those.
Mistakes That Cost Candidates Their Seat
- Applying for the wrong post because two posts share the name Inspector.
- Missing the document stage because attested copies were not stamped as required.
- Claiming age relaxation without a certificate.
- Trusting an agent who promises a guaranteed FBR job. No such guarantee exists, and a forged paper can end your career before it starts.
Salary and Pay Scale
Pay follows the federal Basic Pay Scale for the scale of the post, BS-16 or BS-14, plus allowances under federal rules. This guide does not print a figure, because the scale was revised and old numbers on other sites are often out of date. Check the current pay scale notification from the Finance Division before you compare offers.
